And it Begins
"What're you trying to say Julian?" Laurain
said with a sarcastic smile along with a laugh
also full of it. I drove down the highway,
"We should've waited." She flipped hair out
her face then frowned, "Was I that bad?" I
sighed heavily, "Laurain that's not the point.
I'm talking about-"
She burried her face in her long white sleeves,
"I'm sorry I was bad Julie. I just never
done it before and-"
"I'm talking about Kimmy! We shouldn't have
done it because Kimmy is officially out of
state!" I snapped. She winced at my out of
nowhere anger, "Why are you yelling?"
I slapped the steering wheel, "My sister
is slipping away!" Laurain showed a bit
of fright on her pale face. She touched
my hand lightly, "We'll get Kimmy back. Then
we can go to New York like we planned."
I moved my hand away from her soothing one, "No
Laurain. Please can you just...shut up."
Her lip quivered as she put her knees toward her
chest.
As we arrived to Southern Michigan, Laurain
was a complete mute. And the more silent it
got, the more I felt bad for being so mean to
her. But that would have to wait. The tracker
says Kimmy's five blocks down. I was actually
going to see her!
"Laurain you can stop shutting up now," I said
lightly. She looked at me with big dog like eyes.
I felt even worse. "Sorry for snapping. I don't
really regret last night," I said not able to
look her in the face. "You regretted it? How
dare you," she lightly spoke as I pulled up to
the old run down house. The house Kimmy was in.
"Laurain please," I whinned. Her eyes filled,
"I bet you regret meeting me too. If it weren't
for me, you and Kimmy'd still be at home safe."
I touched her arm but she jerked away, "I'm
doing this for Kimmy, not to make you feel
better Julian." I knew I was in deep shit when
she slurred my name like it was a curse.
She slammed the chevy door as we walked up to
the rundown house. And it begins.
