Emma Lee is an inspiring, perfect and fictional young woman. A direct descendant, perhaps, of a First Family of Virginia and America's Southland. Let's say, General Robert E. Lee. A respectable southern belle.

Divinely beautiful and wonderful in the eyes of a hopelessly smitten young man by whom she is adored and who pines for her. In spirit, mind, emotion and body. For him, she is seemingly unattainable as he is driven by his unquenchable thirst and hunger for her. Though with purity of heart and the best of intentions. Which is to say: "Marriage".

Any similarities seen between the poetic Emma Lee and any other actual young woman, either living or dead, is purely coincidental.

This poem also provides an alternate rhyming arrangement to suggest how, like "Katie Anne", another young woman's name might be make to fit the rest of the poem. View table of contents...

EMMA LEE

By E. J. T. BRADLEY

Wonderful !

As Is She !

How Perfect Can

One Woman Be ?

Beautiful ! Beyond Belief.

Only She, Could Cause

Such Grief !

Stole My Heart. Like A Thief.

Time Or Day,

Cannot Be Told.

When Away,

My Heart She Stole.

Emotions Strong

Besiege My Soul,

Inspiring Song

And Passion’s Goal.

If My Kiss,

Would She Permit.

Could I Choose Where

First To Place It?

Nectar Sweet,

Would Taste Adore.

Awaits Me At

Her Every Pore.

Now Must Wait

Another Day,

To Know Her

Flavor And Bouquet.

Feminine !

Womanly !

Most Divine !

Emma Lee !

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

I followed your poem from beginning to end and one thing that struck me was that i did not get bored. It is so unlike my work that i am tempted to change style, its so simple yet complex.I think you'll inspire alot of ue less technical poets.

the Lame One:

Thank you for your kind and complimentary remarks.

Please be encouraged to seek and develop your own distinct style. For me it is the message which is most important.

One exception: When the message is intended as nonsense. Solely for the purpose of providing the reader with pure entertainment. In these cases, style becomes most important.

I don't think about my writing style much, if at all.

My method, with respect to poetry, is to:

1. Write what you want to say once.

2. Make certain you "get in" every point you want to make. And in the sequence that makes sense to you. Let the last line(s) and verse of the poem make the main point you want to convey to the reader.

3. Then edit what you have written to eliminate as many words as possible so that the reader has to provide, from their imagination, the words not there. This can impact clarity, but not always. After you have done this once, then.,

4. Re-edit and, at the same time, see if the surviving words can be either replaced or rearranged, in a more artful way. Then,

5. Read the poem aloud to see how it sounds to the ear. Rhyming, rhythm and lyricism all help the "sound". Suggest reading my postings "POEMS" and "The Poem" for inspirational models. It can help to have the same number of syllables in each line within a verse or, at least, in each corresponding line between verses. But this is not a hard and inflexible rule.

6. Repeat all of the afore steps until you are happy with your poem. Please yourself first, post the poem and, then, let your fans find their way to you.

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

Ed, I think men (in general) could take your poem and just add their own lady love's name at the end and it would be just as sweet and romantic. Lovely work.

Thank you for the compliment. My point and purpose. Exactly!

Hopefully! It will serve to guide a man's thoughts and feelings, for his beloved, by imbuing him with higher and more sufficient levels of respect and awe. For her.

Of course, it would also help matters if he were to tell her so. Don't you think?

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

Ha, I found myself laughing through this. Don't take that the wrong way, it's just I could relate to the poem. Everyone feels as if the most beautiful are the biggest heartbreakers. I thought it was wonderfully written!

Thank you for your complimentary remarks. Glad you liked it.

That it made you laugh as well. Though this was not the reaction or response sought or anticipated. By myself. Each poem can engender a wide range of response(s). Depends on who may be reading it. I guess.

If you want to read a poem with widest possible range and number of responses, then I recommend my posting "Self Love". Just reading the comments is worth the effort.

Thank you again for your thoughtful remarks. Will read your work as well.

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

Read Emma Lee with great pleasure. Its simplicity is perfect, and conjures up an antipodean southern belle. Shades of Scarlett O`Hara, or would it be the sweet Melanie? Will try and read as much as I can of your work. Thanks for the pleasureable experience.

Thank you for your supportive and glowing compliment. Glad you liked it. Helps when someone else praises one's own writing.

Was not thinking that much of either Scarlett O'Hara or Melanie Wilkes. At the time. Though they both did cross my mind. Momentarily.

It is for the imagination of the reader to "cast" the character of Emma Lee with the image of the woman who, most readily and aptly, fills the role. In their way of thinking.

Thank you again! For reading, commenting and the compliment.

My style is very different from yours. I write what i feel and let it be. Only a few times have i actually gone back to my work to change anything. Your work is great because you work on the rhythm and flow. When i read Katie Anne(oops, think i already forgot the name :/) i thought of a well educated successful woman. In this one, i imagined a more physical beauty than psychologically. Was it the picture? or the name? i dont know, but i i know this had a sudden change in comparison, but i guess its to do with it suiting an individuals mind. So we could place our love instead and respond with our own unique reaction.

You have a way with words, my words are more sad. Your raise positive thoughts no matter what topic it is on. Even if it is a negative event, at least you show humour. This piece did a lot for me. I had a small epiphany on the individualism of one person to another, and how well we can live in harmony.
:D
A delightful read, you always have me thinking... thats my response/reaction.

I like the unexpected style of your poem almost a ballad. It made me laugh and envision a romance novel-- possibly of the same name. Being from Kentucky originally and now living in Virginia, your words conjure up many a Southern Belle.

The idea was to articulate a set of emotions which when, sincerely, expressed to one's beloved will cause her to or want to reciprocate. By developing similar feelings of her own. For you.

Yes! I did have someone in mind for both "Emma Lee" and for "Katie Anne". When writing them.

Some women can be truly wonderful, inspiring and can engender, in some men(worthy of their attention), an affection which transforms them from the inside(feelings, emotions, imagery and thoughts) to the outside(behavior, manners, choice of vocabulary and showing reverence in relating to one's beloved woman).

The internal work or transformation must take place before manifesting itself, on the outside. Wish more men would do this. For their own happiness as well as for the happiness of the woman who may love them. Greatly benefiting and increasing happiness levels for their children as well.

Thank you again.
