My weekly top 10 (46): (nov 09 – 15, 2008)
-
1. KDARLIN287 – teenager’s love
2. BABYBOO70 – mermaids in the sand
3. CLO – my death story
4. PHOENIXINVICTUS – chestnuts! chestnuts!
5. LITTLE TIGER – reader and reviewer
6. CHEAPMONK – why can’t i?
7. QUEENDRAGONLADY – i know not
8. COMETTAIL – survivor
9. MEXELA – the next generation
10. NAVEEN - boys
-
KDARLIN287– Love can happen at any age, be it in the crib or the death bed. This love is a teenage one. Katelyn in her poem “teenager’s love” has a very short and practical philosophy. This one may be right after your heart. She wants him one moment and the next she doesn’t. She doesn’t know what she wants from him. What will she do without him? CONFUSED!
-
BABYBOO70– A mermaid is a mythological aquatic creature that is half human, half fish or dolphin). Mer is ‘mere” (sea) and maid is woman. Mermaids appear to have the torso of a fish and the body of a woman. Beverley in her poem “mermaids in the sandhas a magical fairy-like mermaid enjoying her evening out at sea. She is waiting for her love too. ETHEREAL
-
CLO – Well, well. Can anyone write about one’s own death! It seems one can if what Chloe writes in her novel “my death story” is plausible. Eva Bennett is a witch. She often wonders if there is God for she is of course DEAD! While on her way to the office, she is being tailed. She can’t run fast. And then she is shot by a beast. DEADLY!
-
PHOENIXINVICTUS – This one is truly a beauty. Ambition is fine but if one is over-ambitious, it can lead to a total downfall. Phoenixinvictus in her short story “chestnuts! Chestnuts!” has a ruthless and ambitious Daniel Fellows, who is all for developing a land at the cost of cutting trees. The environmentalists protest but it falls on deaf ears. When he thinks he had succeeded by treachery, he… Read on.
-
LITTLE TIGER – Excellent reader and reviewer.
-
CHEAPMONK – Hmm. Love is truly in the air. But this is one-sided love. Mark Gerald L. Ibarra in his poem “why can’t i?” describes about his feelings for his girl friend, who is totally unaware of it. He can’t sleep and is restless if he doesn’t see her. He fell in love with her in summer. He has to make a choice – be friends or profess love. LA LA!
-
QUEENDRAGONLADY – We all are masters of none but chirp away our way to glory. We know our limitations but want to go beyond them. QDL in her poem “i know not” confesses to not knowing her true identity – who and what she is. These questions do plague her. But she wants to leaves her mark, have a moral standing and do all the good deeds. DOER.
-
COMETTAIL – We all face tough times and how we survive them is what makes us. Tough times do not last but tough people do. And they are called survivor. C Davidson in her poem “survivor” has a gritty woman, who was cheated in love and abused. She moved on and started a new life with the help of her friends. He remained where he was. WHOA!
-
MEXELA – It is often said that it is very difficult (if not impossible) to write about a girl’s life. For there are many ups and downs and it takes time to understand them. Mexela in her (longest, 26 parts) short story “the next generation” has a sensitive girl Bethan, who longs for a deceased father. She meets James and life seems cool. It is her life’s JOURNEY!
-
NAVEEN – This one is the icing on the cake. If Katelyn can write about teenage love, can Naveen be left behind? She in her misc “boys” feels boys – “can’t live with them, can’t live without them”. Very true. You do a google search on them and come across what you don’t want to. You do many other things. It is a no-win situation. Any solutions! Contact NAVEEN!

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA II has created history.
As the winner of the presidential elections of November 4, 2008, he is currently the president-elect of the USA, expected to take office as the 44th President of the US on January 20, 2009.

Obama (47), an attorney by profession, is the first African-American to be elected President of the United States. He was born on August 04, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii and is the junior US Senator from Chicago, Illinois.

He is the multiracial son of Barach Hussein Obama, Sr, a Luo from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a white American from Wichita, Kansas. Dunham divorced and again married Lolo Soetoro from Indonesia.

Obama is married to Michelle LaVaughn Obama, 44, (nee Robinson), a lawyer born and raised on the south side of Chicago. They have two daughters, Malia Ann (10) and Sasha (7).

He has written two poems – “pop” and “underground”, a memoir “Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” (1995), and two books The Audacity of Hope (2006), and It Takes a Nation: How Strangers Became Family in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina (2006).

He has the only paternal step grandma Sara, uncles and aunts living in Indonesia, Kenya and the US.

He has eight half-siblings -- seven of them living -- by four other marriages or relationships of his parents.

His father, Barack Obama Sr., had four children by a woman he married in Kenya before his 1960 marriage to Obama's mother in Hawaii. Two of those children -- son Abongo (Roy) and daughter Auma -- were born before Barack Obama Jr.

After Obama Sr. divorced Obama's mother in 1963, he married another American woman he brought to Kenya and had two more sons -- Mark and David, who was killed in a motorcycle accident. That marriage ended in a divorce, after Obama Sr. resumed his relationship with his first wife.

The elder Obama had two other sons -- Abo and Bernard -- by his first wife, though Obama wrote in his memoirs that there is some question whether another man actually fathered Bernard.

Obama Sr. later had another son, George, by a woman he was involved with but apparently did not marry.

As for Obama's mother, the former Stanley Ann Dunham, she had a daughter, Maya Soetoro-Ng, from a second marriage to Lolo Soetoro.

Obama’s ancestry/genealogy goes back six generations, both his father’s and mother’s side.

Obama has a namesake city OBAMA (little beach) located in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
